Blood Drive

To celebrate the martyrdom of Baba Deep Singh Ji, Gurudwara's( The Sikh Temple) executive committee decided to participate and contribute back to the Las Vegas community. The decision was made to have a blood drive – the first time ever by an Indian community group. Eventually United Blood Services organized Blood Drive Camp on February 11, 2007 at the gurudwara premises.

On this special occasion, Akhand Paath (48 hrs. continuous recitation of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the holy book) commenced on Friday, February 9, 2007 and completed on February 11, 2007.

An overwhelming response to the blood donation camp took United Blood Services (UBS) by surprise. Gurudwara and the UBS were expecting to collect 20 pints of blood during the 6-hour blood drive, but over 40 people showed up to donate the blood. UBS collected 29 pints of blood. Some of the donors drove from as far as Kingman. UBS mobile blood van was fitted with 4 donor beds for collecting blood donation. Seeing enthusiasm of donors, Mr David, UBS coordinator, promised to provide two UBS buses on future drives.

Chief Guest, City Councilman Steve Ross lauded the efforts of the Gurudwara for initiative as well as for motivating the volunteers in community. Councilman Ross and his wife enjoyed the langar (lunch) with other community members. Rajwinder Singh Dhaliwal, President of the Gurudwara honored Mr. Steve Ross with a plaque on this special occasion.

Blood drive held at the Gurdwara was a grand success.
